Origin of Carrasco

Hispanic and Filipino surname that derives from a toponym or a nickname that indicated the presence of numerous trees.

Castilian surname, native to the mountains of Burgos, from where it spread throughout the Peninsula.

There was a Carrasco house in the town of Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia), and some branches of this surname come from it, especially in Old Castilla.

Other houses existed in Galicia, Asturias, and Castilla la Nueva. A branch passed to Chinchón, where he founded a new house.

In the province of Burgos he had a solar house in Malmellar de Arriba; in the province of Valladolid in Simancas, Torrecilla de la Orden, Tordesillas, Tudela de Duero, Valladolid, Villabrágima and Villanueva de Duero, and in the province of Albacete in Albacete, El Bonillo, Carcelén and La Roda, documented in the 16th century.

Juan de Mendoza points out that he had a solar house in Merindad de Trasmiera (Cantabria).

In Aragon he had houses in Berrueco (Zaragoza), his owner Gil Carrasco; in Cariñena (Zaragoza), its owner Anthón Carrasco; in Ateca (Zaragoza), its owner Martín Carrasco, and in Pozuelo de Aragón (Zaragoza), its owner Pero Carrasco, documented in the Aragonese Fogueración of 1495, and in the city of Teruel.

They went to Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, the Philippines, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.

In the provinces of Albacete, Almería, Granada, Salamanca and Santa Cruz de Tenerife there are places called Carrasco, which may be related to this lineage.

Domingo Carrasco, Domingo Carrasco, minor, and Mateu Carrasco, were residents of Massamagrell (València) in 1379. Guillém Carrasco was a resident of Ayora (València) in 1402.

In Alava he had a solar house in the town of Santa Cruz de Campezo, belonging to the same Brotherhood, documented in 1550.

Another branch passed to Andalusia in the 16th century, with houses in Seville and Vélez Rubio since the reconquest of this town; in Seville they proved their nobility for militia and administration positions in 1634, 1659 and 1778.

Juan Carrasco, a resident of Olmedo (Valladolid), obtained a certificate of nobility given to him by Don Enrique IV in the Real de Simancas, in consideration of his services in the war against the adversary of Portugal, so that they would keep it for him, in Medina del Campo, on August 3, 1475.

Pedro Carrasco, a resident of Agreda (Soria), obtained the privilege of nobility for his good services in 1508.
