The earliest recording that we have been able to trace from the church registers is that of Giovanni Facciano, at Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italia, on December 31st 1592.

It derives from the medieval name Facino in turn derived from the apheresis of the name Bonifacio.

There is an example in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy in Brescia in the year 1186: "...iacet in villa de Rothina et de ista non pertinet Facino ubi medietatem: a mane ser Cotum, a sera Lanfrancus Lupus,...", we remember as a famous character the Captain of Ventura Facino Cane who was born in Casale Monferrato probably between 1350 and 1360.
