Very old Catalan lineage. Originally from the town of La Garriga (Barcelona). They also had a house in Aiguafreda and Verges (judicial district of Girona). He went to Valencia, Aragon and Murcia.

Writes Mossèn Jaime Febrer, in his Trovas: "Benito (Benet) Zagarriga, subject of many assets in Rosselló (Lleida), and highly esteemed by the infant D. Rafael Garriga, a native of Vilanant (Girona), obtained the privilege of Honored Citizen of Barcelona, ​​in Barcelona, ​​on December 20, 1645.

Luis Garriga obtained the privilege of Honorable Citizen of Barcelona on May 18, 1702.
